A Wounded Soldier Needs Our Letters and Encouragement.

Mr. Robert Stokely is asking that we all step up to the plate and make a wounded soldiers’ recovery a little easier on him.

SPC Brian Hall served with my son, SGT Mike Stokely. A little less than a month after Mike was killed; Brian suffered serious injury to the head from an exploding IED on Sept. 13, 2005 near Mahmuhdiyah, south of Baghdad. Numerous brain surgeries and partial loss of short term memory is just some of what he has been through. He is coming along very well and slowly rebuilding the short term memory he lost - almost like reloading files on a computer. I recently sent him a copy of Mike's Memorial Service Program, DVD and some other items. I have never had anyone express more genuine appreciation for something I had done for them. As he said, just having a picture of Mike helped him "remember" Mike a little better.

Brian had been allowed to come home from Walter Reed for a while, but his leave time ran out and he was required to go back the end of April. Looks like he going to be at Walter Reed for a while - several months most likely. At some point he will be released back to civilian medical care and home to Atlanta. At present his wife and children are back in Atlanta and the ability to go back and forth is very limited.

Because of the timing of his wounds - so soon after Mike died, I kind of lost out on his being injured and where he was out. However, I have developed a friendship with Brian these last few weeks. He loves any kind of mail. He is just plain lonely at times being separated so far from his CAV Troop that is now home, his family, and friends. He could use a lift if you have time and could drop him a card or letter. Here is his mailing address.

Brian is going to make it back and has good communication skills. He has a great sense of humor. He has a great spirit and heart, but a very wounded body. I'd like for as many as could to rally around him at this time.

Thanks for any kindness and support you can show Brian,

Robert Stokely

Come on folks this is the least we can do for Spc Hall. Let’s send him as many cards and letters as we can and help him get through this emotionally tough time.

UPDATE:
Open Posted at the Mudville Gazette, thank you!
Trackbacked to Pirate's Cove

NOTE: Pam of Iraq War Today says: "Wanted to let you know that we have some Soldiers' Angels who visit Walter Reed regularly, and are going to check in with Brian, and see if there's anything we can do for him and his family."
