Nobody Wins?
This political cartoon greeted me this morning as I perused my morning paper. I wasn’t sure what Ms. Woolf was trying to say with her drawing so with my current world view I came up with this possibility.
Continuing with the football analogies:
DNC Chairman Howard Dean and his Offensive Head Coach John Murtha (D-PA) confer on 4th and goal from the 3 yard line with 2 minutes left in the game:
Dean: Gee John, what do you think, can we win this thing? Can we take it all the way to Washington? Yeaaaahaaaaaa!
Murtha: No Sir I don’t think we can, we’re only up by 15 points so I think we better punt it away and let them have the ball. We can meet them next year on our own turf and it’ll be better then.
Dean: Great idea John, besides Bush can’t find his way out of a paper bag, there is no way they’ll score again. We’ll win this title yet even if it kills us all!
-OR-
President Bush and his Offensive Head Coach Donald Rumsfeld confer on the sidelines, its still 4th and Goal from the 3, with 2 minutes left in the game:
Bush: What do you think Don can we score and still get the ball back to run the score up so high that they have no chance in hell of winning?
Rummy: Damn straight sir, I suggest a little play action to the right and then a short pass to the corner. That cocksure Ranger over there is itching to score!
Bush: Right send them in and crush those idiots!
Hmmmmmmmmm, is this still a no win situation Ms. Woolf? I didn’t think so, now who's side do you want to be on?
