Operation Valentine

Paula Westbrook, who teaches in Keene Independent School District (ISD), received $25 for her Teaching Tip for this week from the UEA. Her tip is getting her classes to participate in Operation Valentine being supported by Hayes & Associates. She writes of her project:

My class is making valentines this year to send to the troops in Afghanistan as part of Operation Valentine. The valentines will be delivered to the troops along with free chocolates provided by the National Confectioners Association. The cards need to reach Virginia by February 11th and contain the following information on the back:

Child’s first name only
Teacher’s name and class
Full school address

Combine all valentine cards together as a packet from your class and mail to:
Operation Valentine

I have a phone call in to Hayes & Associates, but the contact person I was sent to has not yet returned my voice mail so I haven’t been able to check out the veracity of this operation yet, but I like that it’s out there. A quick Google Search brought up hundreds of similar programs so I hope this one is for real. Of course it goes without saying that Keene ISD’s participation in Operation Valentines is a whole lot better than some of the clap trap some school districts put together to show their support for the troops.

If it’s for real of if the participation info is not exactly correct I’ll be sure to let you all know.
