Web Reconnaissance for 06/12/2006

A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention.

Ray Robison writes Zarqawi will be the tipping point “Okay, let me go out on a limb and just say what I am thinking. Al-Zarqawi’s death will make a huge difference. I won’t waste your time discussing all the arguments against this analysis. You know them already: Al Qaeda in Iraq is but one component of the insurgency. Al Zarqawi wasn’t that important anyway. Osama never liked him anyway. We can’t win militarily. The fact is we can win militarily. Now to be sure, we need complimentary diplomatic, security, economic, and even humanitarian efforts. All these things are very important and have been important for the last three years.” (read more)

William Teach of the Pirate’s Cove writes DU Loves The Troops. Right? “I went over to see what the DUmmies said about the report that Al Queda is promising a big attack fror wacking “Sneakers” Zarqawi, but ran across something sickening. This one has the pithy title of “Why would soldiers beat a wanted enemy on a stretcher TO DEATH?” (read more)

Average Gay Joe writing at Gay Patriot writes Do Democrats really “support the troops”? “Many say they do, some of whom support the GWOT and others of whom do not. The leaders of their party certainly say they do, and quite often. There are many Republicans and Independents, and even some Democrat hawks, who question whether they really do but some of this can undoubtedly be chalked up to partisanship. So do Democrats really support the troops or is this a mere political slogan to curry favor with voters?” (read more)

Paul at Wizbang writes Democrat Talking Points Killing U.S. Soldiers “In a story we've been following here at Wizbang, more and more evidence is coming in from the field that up-armoring Humvess is killing more soldiers than it has been saving.” (read more)

Expose the Left has More Proof Kos Has Lost Touch With Reality on Meet the Press (VIDEO) “Markos “Kos” Moulitsas, founder of the blog Daily Kos, appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press opposite of NRO’s Byron York to discuss the Yearly Kos Convention. Kos thinks this will convention will bring more discourse to national politics and will effect the ‘06 and ‘08 elections. Other than the fact he has been saying this for years about his own blog and he is 0-20 with supporting candidates, I don’t think anyone has heard a peep about the Yearly Kos convention.” (read more)

Kobayashi Maru writes Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! “Michael Crichton's book "State of Fear" is an awful novel. The characters are wooden, the plot (such as it is) a Hollywood caricature, transparently engineered to hook a film deal. But as a vehicle for an idea, it's had a more profound influence on my thinking (and my thinking about thinking) than anything I've read in the past few years. OK, almost anything.” (read more)

Crazy Politico writes Goin' To Court “The ACLU and Fed's will square off in Federal Court in Michigan today over the NSA's terrorist surviellance wire tapping program today. I'm glad it's going to court, and I'm hoping to see the ACLU mopped up by the judge on it. For a quick refresher, here's how the administration has claimed the program works.” (read more)

Captain B writes HONOR “Marines are held to a high standard of the utmost ethical and moral behavior. Honesty and honor are held in great regard. Respect for others is essential. You are expected to act responsibly in a mature and dependable manner. Every Marine is accountable for his or her actions and meeting the highest standard of the Corps.” (read more)

Sachi at Big Lizards writes Provenance We often describe a situation where different parties are saying completely different things, and there is no way to tell which is right, as a case of "he said, she said." But to the antique media, when the "he" in this equation is a Moslem jihadi, then "he said, she said" usually turns into "he said, and that's good enough for us!" Take the recent attack at the beach in Gaza, where seven (or eight) Palestinian civilians, including children, were killed by... by what? Palestinian spokesmen who were not present at the time insisted it was by an Israeli shell... and that's good enough for the UK Times online: (read more)

Most Certainly Not writes Haditha -- Issue Spotting and Question Gathering “It's possible you haven't been availing yourself to the information being gathered and reported on the alleged Haditha incident outside the realm of the mainstream media's feeding frenzy. As always, looking outside the paradigm provided for you by the MSM will provide you with some interesting information. The MSM takes issue with news blogs who latch onto one story and investigate the heck out of it, but it would serve the MSM better to actually read what is there, research it themselves and follow-up...news gathering...what a novel concept.” (read more)
