A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention.

Victor Davis Hanson writes The Fragility of the Good Life “We Americans don't seem to worry that we owe billions of dollars to the Chinese, or that our oil hunger is enriching hostile rogue regimes, or that our annual budget deficit keeps adding to our national debt. Why fret now? For nearly a quarter-century, Americans have come to expect the good life. Unemployment should never go above 5 percent. Interest rates are expected to be always around the same low percentages, inflation even lower — and all this accompanied by steady growth in the economy and expanding government entitlements. Double-digit rates of interest, unemployment and inflation — the stagflation that characterized the Nixon and Carter administrations — are apparently ancient history.” (read more)

Expose the Left has McKinney Sues ‘Atlanta Journal-Constitution’ for Libel “McKinney is suing the AJC for reporting the truth: NEW YORK A Democratic congresswoman from Georgia is suing The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for libel. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney filed charges against the newspaper’s editor Cynthia Tucker and publisher John Mellott for an editorial column that ran in the Sunday July 30 paper about McKinney’s alleged altercation with police, according to All Headline News.” (read more)

Major Mike writes Islamofascists…Termites in the House of Cards “It has occurred to me over the past couple of weeks, with the Middle East and Afghanistan in turmoil, because of the likes of Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Iraqi Insurgents, Hamas and Hezbollah; that we now live in a world where governments, borders, diplomatic protocols, and indeed, civilizations are on the brink of becoming extinct and obsolete. These groups, some quasi-governmental entities, (Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah), others simply terror organizations (AQ, and the AQ led Iraqi insurgents) are on the verge of collapsing the existing, and long recognized, international conventions of government, and governmental interactions. Operating outside the frameworks of established political systems, these groups are capable of destroying the very essence of our existing, global, civilization.” (read more)

Steve Schippert of Threats Watch writes Hezballah Is On The Ropes “The Clock Ticks for Hizballah as Assad Loves His Palaces More Than Nasrallah: Amid the relentless images of the dead extracted from a building in Qana, amid the fiery anger those images generated – from Lebanon to Europe and from Egypt to Indonesia - and amid deafening global cries for an immediate ceasefire, a curiously contradictory picture is emerging from the battlefields of Hizballistan: Hizballah is on the ropes, running short of resources and desperate for a ceasefire for its very survival. While the world has held itself aghast at ‘Israeli aggression,’ Israel has been relentless in pursuit of what has been described as the fiercest Arab fighting force in the region. Undeterred by global outcry as over two thousand rockets and missiles have rained down upon Israeli cities with relatively little note, Israel has made good on their Prime Minister’s declaration of “Enough.” Israel is providing a lesson on fighting the war on terror. Hugh Hewitt writes The National Security Collapse of the Democratic Party “I have already posted on Democratic Congressman John Dingell's extraordinary equivocation about the nature of Hezbollah: "I don't take sides for or against Hezbollah; I don't take sides for or against Israel." Both Dean Barnett and I have posted on the decision of Demcoratic leadership in both House and Senate to make the November campaign a referendum on cutting-and-running from Iraq. The New York Times on Sunday endorsed Joe Lieberman's challenger and Kossputin's creation Ned Lamont because of the senator's support for the war. Now RawStory reports on Congresswoman Lynne Woolsey's "The Iraq War Powers Repeal Act of 2006," which has, incredibly, garnered 22 co-sponsors.” (read more)

Jay Tea of Wizbang writes It's the thought that counts “I've been pretty hard on the "proportionality" argument as to why Israel should ease up on Hezbollah in the current fighting taking place in Lebanon. But of late I've been reconsidering my position, and I find myself wondering if Israel's response is indeed out of proportion to the attacks. The key word here is "proportional." It can mean "roughly equal," but it can also mean "roughly equal when adjusted for scale." Blueprints and models are often proportional; they are identical to the depicted item in question, but reduced in scale.” (read more)

Pirates Cove has SM Murtha Being Sued By Marine “A Marine Corps sergeant who grew up in Connecticut and is under investigation in connection with the deaths of 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha is accusing Rep. John P. Murtha of defaming him in public comments about the case. Lawyers for Frank D. Wuterich, 26, who grew up in Meriden, Conn., argue in a suit to be filed Wednesday in federal court that Murtha falsely accused Wuterich ‘of cold-blooded murder and war crimes.’” (read more)

Michelle Malkin writes Court orders NYTimes: Cough it up “I reported recently on the terrorist-tipping New York Times' battle to prevent federal prosecutors from looking at phone records as part of an investigation into who leaked information about FBI raids on Islamic charities that served as fronts for jihadi groups. A court decision just came down today. The Times has been ordered to cough up the docs. The judges rejected the paper's attempt to hide behind the First Amendment to justify its obstruction:” (read more)

T.F.Boggs writes An Unfortunate Truth “A lot of people ask me what I think about what is going on in Israel right now and how I feel about their actions. I guess they want to know the viewpoint of a soldier who is fighting in a similar war in the same region. I don’t think my opinion on the matter holds much more weight than anyone else’s but I do have strong feelings about what is going on. The short and skinny about my beliefs is that I think Israel is a peace loving nation that is doing what it has to do to protect itself from a people who want to see it, along with all it’s people, destroyed.” (read more)

Tom the Redhunter writes The End of Illusions “We're at the point now where an serious person must realize that the "land for peace" formula that was the backbone of the "roadmap to peace" is dead and buried. We have been told for over 30 years now that peace can be achieved if Israel would only give up this or that piece of land. And it seemed to work, once. In 1978, Anwar Sadat, the President of Egypt, concluded a deal with Prime Minister Menachem Begin of Israel, the essential part of which was that Israel would return the Sinai to Egypt in return for various security guarantees.” (read more)

Dan Riehl writes More MSM Propaganda Exposed “There's a story just starting to make the rounds of the MSM outlets - that Israel is targeting ambulances. You can find it mentioned in the New York Times, the Guardian and several more outlets. But it appears our friends from ... wait for it, that's right, Qana, may be up to some new tricks. The story goes that the Israeli's struck two ambulances, injuring nine people, severing one man's leg. There's only one problem; it looks as though it isn't true.” (read more)
