BAGHDAD – Iraqi Police responded to an explosion near the Kamalia Mosque in the New Baghdad section of eastern Baghdad at approximately 9:45 a.m., Dec. 13.
After arriving to the scene of the explosion, the Iraqi police confirmed that a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated across the street from the Kamalia Mosque in New Baghdad. The Kamalia Mosque is a Shi’a mosque located in the eastern section of the Iraqi capital.
Soldiers from 4th Brigade, 1st National Police Division, supported by their coalition force led Military Transition Team are also on scene for support.
1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division has also been called for support to conduct a damage assessment on the Kamalia Mosque.
Attack aviation was called for support but did not engage any enemy; it has since left the area with nothing significant to support.
This event is still under investigation.
