BAGHDAD – 8th Iraqi Army division forces, with Coalition advisers, captured asuspected illegal armed group cell leader Dec. 9 during operations in Al Kut. The suspect allegedly orders and supervises indirect fire attacks against Coalition Forces and the placing of improvised explosive devices in the area. He is also suspected of ordering a recent ambush attack on a Iraqi Security Forces and Coalition Forces patrol.
Iraqi Army forces conducted operations at multiple locations to capture the cell leadership and its members. Iraqi forces entered and searched an OMS office in Al Kutin support of the operation.
Iraqi forces exchanged small arms fire with hostile elements, slightly wounding one enemy fighter. The fighter was treated by medical personnel on-site and detained along with three additional suspected cell members.
Minimal damage was done during the operation. There were no Iraqi Forces orCoalition Forces casualties. There were no reports of civilian casualties.
