BUHRIZ, Iraq – Coalition force medics from Forward Operating Base Warhorse, treated two Iraqi children who received injuries during a terrorist mortar attack in Buhriz, Iraq, Jan. 4.

The attack, which occurred just after noon, consisted of two mortars of an unknown size.“The terrorists fired mortars into a neighborhood in order to create chaos, fear, and intimidation. Their goal is to kill innocent people to cause the living to fear them,” said Col. David W. Sutherland, 3-1 CAV commander and senior U.S. Army officer in the Diyala province.

The children were transferred from Baqubah General Hospital to a coalition medical facility where they were stabilized. From the coalition base, the children were transferred to Balad to receive additional treatment at a coalition forces’ medical facility.

“I know the hatred the terrorists feel for the innocent people of Iraq manifests itself in violence, but attacking young children accomplishes nothing,” Sutherland added.

“The coalition forces will continue to assist the Iraqi Army and Iraqi Police as they work to maintain security and democratic order,” he said.
