BAQUBAH, Iraq – Iraq Army and Task Force Lightning Soldiers discovered multiple caches, detained several suspected terrorists and killed several other anti-Iraqi forces during a joint operation Sunday in Tahrir, Iraq.

Iraq Army and Coalition force Soldiers conducted a cordon and search targeted at terrorist cells responsible for kidnappings, murders and placing improvised explosive devices.

“The brigade was able to infiltrate into the eastern side of Tahrir quite well, but as they began to move to the various target houses they encountered resistance from terrorists in the area,” said Lt. Col. Timothy Karcher, 2-5 Iraq Army Military Transition Team commander.

Some of the caches consisted of hand grenades, several small-arms munitions and IED-making materials.

The anti-Iraq forces detained were transferred to a Coalition force base for further questioning.

“The brigade caught the enemy by surprise, maintaining initiative throughout the battle, and ultimately defeating the terrorist forces,” Karcher said.
