Where Are They its Their Speaker’s Day?

Nancy Pelosi takes office not only as the first woman but also the first Californian Speaker of The House, so how does the left react? Lets do a little dumpster diving and find out:

McJoan writing at The Daily Kos bemoans the fact that the Main Stream Media is “ignoring” her historic achievement:

“And how do the country's major papers opinion pages handle this historic moment? They don't. No mention at the LA Times, and WaPo features another George Will set of prevarications running the gambit from the New Deal worsening the Depression to the fact that minimum wage workers really aren't poor.
Actually, the NYT does feature a column about Nancy Pelosi, from the always odious David Brooks, this time adding a dash of sexism to his usual drivel.”
The commenters are even less impressed as Malacandra writes in response to Brooks’ column:

“'Some Think’ In junior high school I once wrote an English paper using ‘some say...’ and the teacher marked that with ‘Who says? Shoddy.’ The state of our journalism these days: shoddy.”
I suppose it’s nice to know that the Left thinks as highly of the Lame Stream Media as those of us on the Right do, but let us not get our hopes up too fast as commenter diana04 finds it hard to reconcile actual historic fact with hyperbole when she writes:

“CNN showed GOP press conference – Repubicans [sp] held a press conference to complain that they were already being shut out of the governing process by Democrats. Did the media ever voice Democrats' complaints over the last several years? I don't remember seeing any Democratic congressional press conferences
regarding the abuse they suffered as the minority party.”

You didn’t Diana, wow; I could have sworn I saw Rangel, Murtha, Kerry, Pelosi and Clinton to name but a few on the news every day crying about the Bush Administration and its evil ways.

Else where on The Daily Kos diarist michaelroston wonders about Pelosi’s menstrual cycles and asks:

“How long will it be until Rush Limbaugh jokes about Pelosi as president with nuclear bombs and PMS?”
I don’t know about you, but that’s a bang up job of promoting the first woman Speaker of the House. At least Delaware Dem is thinking what I’m thinking when he writes:

“You would think on the day we are taking over Congress, right now, as we speak, there would be a front page post or five about it. Perhaps even an Open Thread or twenty so we can discuss what we are seeing.”
Anyway at the Huffington Post after seeing a huge banner that simply linked to a Yahoo News story the rest of the filed continued their attack of the President. John Murtha (D-PA) continues to demand more hearings on Iraq, Zogby pulls the light back towards Ellison, and James Moore attacks the President.

Over at the Democratic Underground they actually get around to congratulating Ms. Pelosi even if it is with some added excitement and emotion. Of course its not all rosy in DU land as flyarm writes:
“Our country has spoken..and our nation wants to clean up our government from all the shame the republicans and this president have brought upon our great land!
We want our children to have what we had..a constitution in tact..a bill of rights in tact...and we want the lies stopped...
We want the war of lies stopped! We want our children home..
We want our media to be held accountable for all their propaganda and lies that support the evil sob's in this white house…”

Again with this media conspiracy to promote the President, have they been watching the same news and reading the same newspapers we have for the last 6 years, or is this what passes for news in the Reality Based Community?

And to round out our little dumpster diving trip I present to you The Democratic Daily who could not even bring themselves to mention that Nancy Pelosi has been elected to the Position of Speaker of The House!

Is this what we can expect from the left in the days to come? I suppose there is no honor among thieves; otherwise I would expect that every left leaning blog would have been hyping this story today. On the other hand maybe since she won the election that allowed the use of faulty electronic voting machines they can’t bring themselves to thinking of her as “Their Speaker.”
