Goodbye Buedingen

My beloved 1/1 Cav will soon close its doors for good as it will undergo inactivation this summer:

On February 12, 2007, Major General Robinson addressed the Soldiers, spouses and friends of the 1st Cavalry Squadron about their inactivation scheduled for this coming summer. More than 300 people were in attendance at the Town Hall meeting in Buedingen. During the two hour meeting many questions and concerns were answered while rumor were put to rest.

The deactivation of the oldest Cavalry Squadron will close another chapter in its long history dating back to 1833. Originally named the United States Regiment of Dragoons, they were activated during the Indian Wars and have seen action in all major conflicts up to the present with the exception of WWI.

You can visit the 1/1 Cav site here.
