Operation Troy: A Real Success

The largest, most successful security operation in Basra City since 2003 began on Thursday 15 Feburary 2007 - Operation TROY.

Operation TROY saw several different agencies from the Iraqi Security Forces work and plan together.

539 Assault Squadron Royal Marines (539 ASRM) worked alongside the Iraqi Coast Guard Inland Waterways Department (CGIWD) to patrol the Shaat Al Arab Waterway and the network of waterways running off it into the city.

During the 72-hour operation the level of insurgent attacks dropped substantially and the local population provided positive feedback.
