For the second night running British troops scored a success against rogue militias in Basra in a series of raids late on the evening of Sunday 4 March 2007.
The raids were launched on properties in the Al Jameat district of Basra after information was received about a number of individuals suspected of being involved in an Indirect Fire attack on the Multi National Forces (MNF) base at Basra Palace.
A patrol from the 1st Battalion The Staffordshire Regiment was tasked to carry out a raid on one property.
A significant arsenal of mortar barrels, rocket launch systems, Indirect Fire munitions, components for producing roadside bombs and Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) was discovered as well as a Claymore-type Improvised Explosive Device (IED). It was destroyed at the location.
