BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan — Soldiers of Attack Company, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, Task Force Spartan, took another step among many in the fight for Afghan security and prosperity when they met with the elders of Babeyal, a village south of the Korengal Outpost in Kunar Province March 16.

Soldiers of A Co. have worked with the elders of the surrounding villages for the last year in the hopes of helping to stabilize the area. Soldiers moved into the village with a group of Afghan National Army soldiers to talk with the village elders about security and upcoming reconstruction projects.

ANA took the opportunity to pray in the village’s mosque with all the men of Babeyal.

“After prayer was finished we were able to spend time with all the elders outside at once and have a sizable meeting about any issues at hand,” said Army Capt. James McKnight, commander, A Co.

Security is always an issue for areas lying in the northernmost regions of Regional Command-East.

“We have frequented the village of Babeyal on almost a daily basis,” McKnight said. “South of our outpost is very entrenched with the enemy. It is difficult to work in this area, but the people of Babeyal do not want to fall to their persuasions. They want to work towards a stronger government and more prosperous type of living.”

The frequent patrols that McKnight and his men provide to the people of Babeyal are a part of the agreement that A Co. has made with the elders.
