More than 1,000 Multi-National Forces (MNF) from the UK and Denmark, plus 120 Iraqi Army soldiers took part in a security surge to lockdown Al Qurnah City, northern Basra province on 26-28 February 2007.
Operation LADYSMITH's aim was to re-establish the MNF presence and reassure the local population that MNF will continue to help the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) suppress violence and restore security to pave the way for future prosperity.
The British contingent came from A Company, 3 Scots (formerly The Black Watch) and members of 19 Light Brigade who participated in the joint 36-hour operation after intelligence indicated that the rogue militias were becoming increasingly overt and active.
