Godspeed Brother.
Sad news has arrived for the firefighting family as another of out members has made the ultimate sacrifice while performing his duties: Virginia Firefighter Dies Searching for Victims
A firefighter died Monday morning while searching for victims of a three-alarm fire in Prince William County, News4 reported.
The fire was called in shortly after 6 a.m. in the 15400 block of Marsh Overlook Drive in Woodbridge, officials said. Firefighter Kyle Wilson, 24, was killed in the blaze.
A family of seven, 4 adults and three children, were rescued reportedly in the house at the time the fire started.
Officials said that firefighters responding to the blaze were not aware that the family had taken refuge at a nearby neighbor's house.
"They initiated a very aggressive fire attack and search of the building," said Asst. Chief Kevin McGee of the Prince William County Fire Department.
Fire officials said that while battling the blaze, firefighters noticed that Wilson was missing and began to search for him.
"We initiated immediate rescue to find our firefighter and had to withdraw from that as the building collapsed.
The fire destroyed the home, officials said.
Wilson's body was later discovered among the charred remains. Wilson had been a firefighter for only 9 months.
The flags at fire stations in the area were lowered to half-staff to honor the fallen firefighter. Prince William County fire officials said this is the first time a firefighter has died in the line of duty.
