Qalat PRT Commander: Afghans Jump on the Waves of Progress

FORWARD OPERATING BASE LAGHMAN, Afghanistan — The commander of a provincial reconstruction team carries a large responsibility in achieving the overall mission of securing and rebuilding a post-Taliban Afghanistan.

After all, PRTs are responsible for working with the provincial governor to plan and perform security for reconstruction projects in their assigned provinces. They also assess humanitarian needs and establish relations with representatives of U.S. government and non-government agencies and organizations. A job one Air Force lieutenant colonel looks forward to doing.

Air Force Lt. Col. Jeffrey Fischer officially took command of the Qalat PRT from Air Force Lt. Col. Kevin McGlaughin at a transfer-of-authority ceremony held recently in Zabul Province.
After receiving the Qalat PRT guidon, Fischer addressed the provincial leadership and members of the audience.

“I look forward to working with all of you over the next year,” he said.

He then went on to remind everyone of the history of Afghanistan and that the PRT’s mission would be a challenging one.
