BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition Forces detained 11 suspected terrorists during raids Monday morning targeting foreign fighters and al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leadership.
In Baghdad, Coalition Forces detained one individual suspected of conspiring directly with al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders. When they entered the targeted building, Coalition Forces also found a cache of explosives and weapons, including bomb-making chemicals. An explosives disposal team safely destroyed the materials off-site.
Coalition Forces detained four suspected terrorists in Ramadi for their alleged ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders as part of ongoing operations to target al-Qaeda in Iraq’s command structure.
Three individuals suspected of facilitating the movement and supply of foreign fighters were detained when Coalition Forces targeted an objective in Hit based on successful operations along the Euphrates River Apr. 25 and May 13. Coalition Forces also detained three suspected terrorists near Karmah for their alleged involvement in aiding foreign fighters.
“We continue to actively target al-Qaeda and foreign fighter networks to reduce – and eventually eliminate – their ability to attack people and the institutions of Iraq,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.
