Update on Homeless Iraq Vet (Robert Stokely)

Mr. Stokely introduced us to Kevin back in April. His situation was even a topic of a private discussion at the 2007 MilBlog conference. Today Mr. Stokely gives us another update on the good work that has been done Kevin's behalf:

Working on Kevin's situation, progress being made; part of the holdup was his homelessness and paperwork not getting to him. We have that corrected, he has been to the VA for physical and mental reviews, and FT Benning for a Ready for Duty physical and is supposed to be seen by MED Board. Right now he has a disability rating and some money is starting to flow, and I am certain the pipeline will improve for him.

VA personnel have been very helpful now that they have his file, know where he is living and have established mail and phone contact with him. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland and Senator Johnny Isakosn of GA were very helpful cutting the red tape. Oddly, a fellow sodlier of Kevin's and his wife had a friend in a facilities management position in VA in Washington, who contacted me to offer some help in getting to right people. Turns out she is granddaugther of a very dear friend of mine and she and I had lunch together when I was in Washington a few weeks ago.

So, things are rolling faster pace, improvement in situation being made, outlook is good. Kevin is well fed, housed, safe and has what he needs and that should not change with local support and that of others around the country who have sent money to my church on his behalf. I am nearby and check on him regularly.

Robert Stokely

Thanks for keeping us updated sir, Kevin can not be allowed to slip through the cracks. Romans 8:28 lives on....
