Is The Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP Completely Out Of Touch?

Or are they setting up the Race Card to be played on Vick's behalf?

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- The head of the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP said Wednesday that Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has made mistakes but that they should not cost him his football career with the NFL.

NFL star Michael Vick has accepted an offer to plead guilty to conspiracy charges in a dogfighting case.

R.L. White, president of the Atlanta chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said his organization does not condone dogfighting or any other illegal activity, but he told reporters that Vick should be given a chance to redeem himself.

A chance to redeem himself? He went before the league and his team and lied to them about his involvement.

I'm sorry Mr. White, but it sounds to me that you are just upset that a rich black man is being kept down by "the man." I'm guessing that you are forgetting that Vick was charged and indicted for doing something so heinous that most people in America were shocked out right, and has pled guilty.

White goes on to show just how out of touch he really is:

"In some instances, I believe Michael Vick has received more negative press than if he would've killed a human being," White said. "The way he is being persecuted, he wouldn't have been persecuted that much had he killed somebody."

White also said he didn't understand the uproar over dogfighting, when hunting deer and other animals is perfectly acceptable.

Excuse me? You don't see the difference between hunting and dog fighting? When was the last time you saw a dozen hunters show up with their favorite stag and force it into a pit to fight another stag to the death? Or when was the last time you heard of a hunter breaking the leg of a stag and throwing it into the pit with a healthy stag so it could be trained better. Do you really see no difference here Mr. White, or are you simply trying to protect a man that has become a role model for the black community? A role model I might add that is doing more harm than good to the impressionable youth that the NAACP should be bending over backwards to protect.

If you ask me, Michael Vick should be banned from the NFL for the rest of his life. In that sense he would still be getting a better chance than those dogs that died at his hands because they couldn't fight.
