A Special Veteran's Day - Robert Stokely

It is a special Veteran's Day for our the Stokely Family, for today, November 9, 2007, the Mike Stokely Memorial Scholarship was officially endowed at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville Georgia. The Mike Stokely Foundation, Inc. with the help of so many people, including WSB AM 750 Radio in Atlanta GA, raised the $25,000 needed to form the scholarship. The check was presented this afternoon (Friday, Nov. 9) to General Peter Boylan, President of Georgia Military, at the studios of WSB AM 750 in Atlanta Georgia. http://wsbradio.com/inside/chris_krok.html

What started out as a dream of the broken hearts of our family, sitting on the front porch of our home in the first few hours after news of Mike's death on August 16, 2007, has not become a reality. With this money, a lot of kids will get some help for many years to come, and hopefully go a long way in life. Mike never got to finish at Georgia Military, but each time a student who has been helped by this scholarship graduates, so will Mike.

Even in death, SGT Mike Stokely continues to help and serve the needs of others. Friends and Strangers alike promised they would not forget his sacrifice. Today is evidence of the promise kept and the hope of a future full hope. God bless you my friends in MilBlog world, you made a difference in my life, more than you will ever know. You comforted me, yet a stranger to you, when I was so broken with grief and needing purpose to live life. You gave me hope, you reassured me with your many comments and messages of love and support. Even though my heart can not ever possibly heal and be as complete as it once was, I am able to live a full and happy life. God can truly work good from all things.... Romans 8:28.

To all our Veterans, past and present, especially those serving in harm's way, including good friends like Greyhawk and Tanker Brothers, Thank you for your service and sacrifice and for that of your families.
