FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Concerned Local Citizens in Hawr Rajab discovered an improvised explosive device cache Dec. 9 consisting of five fire extinguishers filled with unknown explosives.
The CLC turned the ordnance over to Soldiers of the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga., and Soldiers of Company A, 5th Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division.
The cache was destroyed in a controlled detonation by an explosive ordnance disposal team.
The same day, Soldiers of Company C, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd BCT, 3rd Inf. Div., discovered an IED while conducting a patrol.
The IED consisted of a lawn mower gas tank filled with TNT and was safely detonated by an EOD team.
Another story of the locals stepping up and taking the lead for their own safety. Good work!
