BAGHDAD – A scout weapons team from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade coordinated an attack that destroyed a vehicle transporting mortars near Arab Jabour Dec. 16.

An enemy mortar attack was launched against 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment Soldiers, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. A scout weapons team was called in to investigate the point of origin of the mortar attack.

A Kiowa helicopter from 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd CAB, 3rd Inf. Div., noticed a suspicious silver van, then saw suspected insurgents jump out and run away.

The Kiowa helicopter destroyed the vehicle with a missile.

Great shooting guys! On the same day, Concerned Local Citizens turned over a cache to Soldiers from Company D, 1-30th Inf. Regt. The cache contained 10 rocket-propelled grenades, 10 pounds of dynamite, a grenade and 90 blasting caps. The cache was destroyed in a controlled detonation.
