Iraq: The Purgatorium: On Another Whim - I handed the forms back to the headshrinker in the digital camo uniform. Waited a few more minutes in a chair in the waiting room. Checked out the drawings sent from young American schoolchildren. "I hope you have a nice war." "Ok, let's see, you say you've been here before?" he asks. My attention snaps back to the task at hand. "Yeah, I saw Captain SomeDude, last winter.""Ok, what was that about?" "Uh....anxiety. Occasional bouts of rage. Iraqmares. They gave me Benadryl. I stopped going. Bill Roggio: Ayatollah Sistani on the Mahdi Army: “the law is the only authority in the country” - With the Iraqi government applying pressure to the Sadrist movement and Muqtada al Sadr to disband the Mahdi Army, Iraq’s senior Shia cleric has weighed in on the issue. Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the most revered Shia cleric in Iraq, backed the government’s position that the Mahdi Army should surrender its weapons and said he never consulted with Sadr on disbanding the Mahdi Army. Instead, the decision to disband the Mahdi Army is Sadr’s to make. (READ MORE)

Coalition force Soldier attacked by IED - BAGHDAD – A Coalition force Soldier was killed when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle during convoy operations in central Baghdad April 9. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin and release by the Department of Defense. (READ MORE)

MND-B Soldiers kill 13 criminals - BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers killed 13 criminals in separate engagements in Baghdad April 9. At approximately 8:35 p.m., Soldiers from 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, manning a combined checkpoint with Iraqi National Policemen from 3rd Battalion, 4th Brigade, 1st National Police Division, were attacked by criminals with small-arms fire from a rooftop nearby in northeastern Baghdad. Soldiers returned fire and killed one criminal. (READ MORE)

Iraqi Police, Iraqi Army discover large cache in Husayniyah - KARBALA, Iraq — Iraqi Security Forces discovered a large weapons cache and detained six criminal suspects during an operation in Husayniyah, south of Baghdad, April 8. The cache discovery and detainments were made as a result of an intelligence-driven operation, targeting a house in the area, by the 33rd Iraqi Army Brigade, with the assistance of Karbala Police. The ISF discovered a cache hole that led under the house to the hidden explosives. (READ MORE)

MND-B Soldiers detain suspected EFP cell leader, seize cache - BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldiers detained a suspected criminal cell leader and seized several mortar rounds during a cordon and search operation in the Aamel Beladiya neighborhood, located in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad, April 9. Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, currently attached to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, acted on a tip from a concerned Iraqi citizen and detained the individual who is believed to be the leader of an improvised explosive device production cell, responsible for making explosively formed projectiles. Iraqi Army soldiers uncover weapons caches near Arab Jassim, PB Warrior Keep - CAMP STRIKER, Iraq – Separate weapons caches were discovered near Arab Jassim and Patrol Base Warrior Keep April 8. Soldiers from 3rd Company, 4th Battalion, 25th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division turned over a cache found in Arab Jassim that included five 155 mm artillery rounds, 113 empty pipes and 50 pipe caps. A local Iraqi turned in a second cache containing a primer, various munitions rounds and a 15-pound bag mixture of munitions pellets, diesel and fertilizer to Patrol Base Warrior Keep. (READ MORE)

New Rule of Law Expert Meets Mada’in Judges - FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER — Col. Doug House, a military lawyer assigned to the Baghdad-8 embedded Provincial Reconstruction Team, attached to the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, met with three judges at the courthouse in Jisr Diyala to gauge their needs April 8. Judge Razaq Jabbar Alwan, chief investigative judge of the qada, welcomed House. (READ MORE)
