KABUL, Afghanistan - Today was much less eventful. No protesters, no burning tires, no distractions.
We're always taught that distractions are a bad thing. Nothing should take our focus away from whatever it is we're supposed to be doing.
But when you are 7,500 miles from home, sometimes distractions are good.
The excitement of yesterday may have made things a little tense, but it sure made the day fly by.
Busy days are embraced because they demand our time and attention.
A truth I already know and I think some of the Task Force Centurion soldiers who are deployed for the first time are now finally coming to understand: The hardest part of the deployment is missing those you love.
Also, it's worse on the front end of a deployment because the separation is still fresh and it gets worse again on the back end of the deployment as the anticipation of reunion builds.
