A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention.
Politics of a Patriot writes Looming Questions “Everyone asks me one question. “Do you know what you're getting yourself into?" In answer to that, no, I do not. I don't know what I'm getting myself into because I've never been in the military before. I also wouldn't know what I was getting myself into if I went to college or any other avenue that I haven't done before. I realize the concern for my particular choice, but I would say I know more of what I am getting myself into than the average recruit. I did not make my decision uninformed.” Read the rest.
Edwin J. Feulner writing at The Heritage Foundation published Wal-Mart's shelf-correcting system is model for government “Anyone who's ever filed a tax return or visited the Department of Motor Vehicles understands that government does two things well: spends our money and wastes our time. Unfortunately, both traits were on display during the response to Hurricane Katrina.” Read the rest
Captain Ed of Captain’s Quarters writes False Notes On Civil War Fears “The New York Times issues a warning about an impending civil war in Iraq that sounds a couple of false notes. Its editorial this morning attempts a historical review of the Iraqis that misses a couple of germane points while it scolds the administration indirectly for causing the problem by toppling Saddam Hussein:” Read the rest
Captain Ed also has No Wonder They're So Bummed Out “Power Line's Paul Mirengoff notes an essay by Phillip Longman in the magazine Foreign Policy that predicts a conservative evolution in the West, thanks to birth rates that decline more the farther one moves to the left of the political spectrum. Longman forecasts that if the population in the West declines dramatically, the remainder will adopt an old-fashioned cultural model of patriarchy as conservatives reproduce at higher rates:” Read the rest
Charlie Munn at The Officer’s Club writes A Little Less Talk, and a Lot More Action (needed) “I know even mentioning something that Howard Dean said is like poking a hornet’s nest. Conservatives jump with joy whenever he opens his mouth, while liberals get angry at the conservatives for being so happy.” Read the rest
Andi of Andi’s World writes Meet Captain Jason Scott - an American Hero “Last night I found myself glued to a blog which I stumbled upon by accident. It's a blog dedicated to Captain Jason Scott, who was injured in Iraq by an IED. The blog is written by several of Scott's family members, and it's a very candid look at the life of a recovering patient at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. There is no glossing over the bad days in this blog, it's perhaps the most honest look at the frustrations, progress, set-backs, challenges and triumphs that I've ever seen.” Read the rest
John Hawkins of Right Wing News writes I Get Letters: Couldn't We Spend Our Money On Something Besides Iraq? “An email from [Angela] a reader... ‘How can one justify the amount of money being spent on defense and the war in Iraq while so many people suffer here in the United States?’ Angela: First of all, thank you for your email and your tone, which is quite different from the shrill and accusatory style that's all the rage these days when liberals and conservatives converse. Now, on to the substance of your email.” Read John’s full response.
The Indepundit writes The Cindy Circus “A READER sends me a tip that Cindy Sheehan is speaking at a local law school, so I head down there with my camera and audio recorder. The room is packed to capacity with students, professors, and media. Cindy launches into her usual stump speech. War is bad; Bush is a terrorist; bring the troops home now; blah, blah, blah.
Then, foolishly, she takes questions” Read the entire exchange here
