Paul at Wizbang writes NSA Phone Database Story Starting to Fall Apart “The USA Today story about the administration tracking every phone call in the country looks like it is crumbling faster than a Corps of Engineers built levee. First, Bellsouth issued a statement and denied they helped the NSA - or where even asked:” (read more)

Kobayashi Maru writes Rolling Over the Low Countries: The Islamist Takeover of EuropeThis morning's Wall Street Journal ($ub$ required) carries a startling page one article on Islamist intimidation in Holland. The piece concerns 36-year-old Somali-born "Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali [who] has been threatened repeatedly with "execution" by Islamist extremists. She lives in an apartment with bulletproof windows, and is driven to work at the Dutch Parliament by armed guards, who vary the route to outfox would-be hit men."’ (read more)

Bruce Thornton writing at Victor Davis Hanson's Private Papers writes Fig-Leaf Diplomacy - The madness of financial support to a hostile Hamas “The drama being played out between Hamas and the West grows stranger by the minute, exposing the cultural toxins that are weakening our resolve in the fight against jihad. The murderous aims of Hamas are clear, as their spokesmen and sympathizers do not hesitate to remind us. Nor is their commitment to jihad against Israel and the West a minority obsession of a lunatic fringe.” (read more)

Crazy Politico writes Making Sense on Immigration “Robert Samuelson has an outstanding piece in today's Washington Post on making some sense of the immigration debate. He slaps the Media, Democrats and Republicans for the obvious problem with the whole debate, we don't want to offend anyone, so we are going about trying to fix immigration in a half assed, polite way.” (read more)

Some Soldier’s Mom writes How Do We Treat Our Wounded? “As regular readers know, I support our military people and only occasionally point out some absurdity... Sometimes I just choose not to post some things because I'm afraid that they will reflect back on my son or his unit...
I'm hoping the following are isolated instances, but since I publicized Noah receiving his Purple Heart, I have had a number of emails on the treatment our wounded soldiers receive from their own units once they returned.” (read more)

Rhymes with Right writes FISA Judges Knew Of Telephone Surveillance “Want to bet this ever-so-significant detail changes nothing for those with Bush Derangement Syndrome? Two judges on the secretive court that approves warrants for intelligence surveillance were told of the broad monitoring programs that have raised recent controversy, a Republican senator said Tuesday, connecting a court to knowledge of the collecting of millions of phone records for the first time.” (read more)

Blue Star Chronicles writes The Wimpization of Our Nation What has become of us? “As a nation we used to be strong, resolute, and stoic. Post World War II America has become increasingly wimpy. We are too pampered, too priviledged.
We are too comfortable.
I worry sometimes about what it will take for us to remember that there is a big bad world just outside our borders. A world bent on destroying us.
We seem determined to ignore it as long and as best as we can. We don’t want to get out of our comfort zones.” (read more)

Blonde Sagacity writes Is it Too Late for Europe? “I often wonder what Europeans think about the mass Islamification of their countries (except for the Danes, we pretty much know how they feel). We know their governments have had very liberal immigration policies in the past --and the MSM says that the majority of these countries are against the war in Iraq... I wish I could listen in to a few pub discussions in Northern England.” (read more)

WO1 Michael Fay USMC writes View From the Soapbox “I've mentioned before that I live in Fredericksburg, Virginia. One of many wonderful things about this beautiful and historic rivertown is our hometown newspaper, The Free-Lance Star. The Op-Ed page editors occasionally humor me by publishing one of my soapbox ramblings. I thought I would share a couple of them with you over the next couple days. I am finding myself, now that I'm in the rear with the gear, compelled to respond to things I read in this well-balanced paper.” (read more)

Mohammed of Iraq the Model writes Summer in Baghdad, the Baghdad furnace…

Andi of Andi’s World writes The War Tapes Under Siege “The mainstream media is having a tough time with The War Tapes. The latest example comes from Newsweek's Rod Nordland, who profiled The War Tapes and two other films that deal with Operation Iraqi Freedom. Nordland's snarky yet abbreviated "analysis" of The War Tapes is an insult to the soldiers who participated in it. If Nordland's intent was to turn a reader off, he likely achieved that goal. Without another point of reference, why would anyone want to see this barbaric bunch of censored soldiers who saw little combat?” (read more)

Charlie Munn at OPFOR writes Grown Ups vs Kids in the Sandbox “Rosa Brooks, columnist from the Los Angeles Times, has written a foreign policy Op-ed that belongs in the same school yard she references in her article: “A Preschool Lesson on Iran” –safely away from the adults who set policy for the world’s only superpower. Says Brooks:” (read more)
