Ben Cardin: Quietly Takes Harry Reid’s Money, Refuses to Criticize Reid’s Unethical Land Deal

TEMPLE HILLS, MD – Congressman Ben Cardin quietly accepted $5,000 from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid last month and then refused to condemn the recently disclosed Las Vegas land deal that profited Reid $1.1 million.

As reported by the Associated Press, Senator Reid made a $1.1 million profit on the sale of Las Vegas land he had not personally owned for three years. According to records and interviews, Reid never disclosed an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend, Jay Brown, and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews. When questioned about the deal Wednesday, Senator Reid hung up on reporters.

Despite the Washington Post’s criticism of Reid’s sweetheart land deal as "transparently wrong,” Congressman Cardin refuses to criticize the unethical land deal and refuses to return Reid’s tainted money. In the past, Congressman Cardin has told Marylanders we must “hold our elected leaders to a higher standard of integrity.” But with the polls currently showing the race deadlocked 46%-46%, Congressman Cardin is hoarding whatever tainted money he can.

“This is pure Washington hypocrisy. Congressman Cardin has failed to take on special interests and those in his own party wrapped in scandal. How can Congressman Cardin stand up for Maryland when he won’t even stand up to his political bosses?” Michael Steele said.

Looking for a change in Maryland, let's vote for a change and elect Michael Steele to the Senate, he is living our values and is looking out for America and Maryland not world opinion.
