BAGHDAD – The Coalition force killed three insurgents during operations near Samsiyah northwest of Al Asad to capture members of an insurgent cell responsible for improvised explosive device attacks and other insurgent attacks against Iraqi and Coalition Forces.
During the operation, members of the Coalition force received fire from three insurgents armed with assault rifles and a machine gun. The Coalition force returned aimed, controlled fire to eliminate the threat, killing the three hostiles.
Coalition force members searched the immediate area, finding a large amount of arms and munitions supporting insurgent attacks. One vehicle containing mines and mine components was destroyed on-site, along with 2 others to prevent their further use in insurgent attacks against Iraqi and Coalition Forces. Also destroyed were a rocket propelled grenade launcher and rockets, two assault rifles, a machine-gun, ammunition, a pistol, and an assembled IED.
There were no Iraqi civilian casualties.
