FALLUJAH, Iraq -- Marines from Regimental Combat Team 5 entered Fallujah General Hospital to search for insurgents after two Marines were wounded yesterday in Fallujah.

While conducting a foot patrol in the southwestern part of the city, the Marines were attacked with small-arms fire that resulted in the two wounded Marines.

After establishing positive identification of the insurgents, the Marines returned fire and radioed for assistance. A section of tanks responded to cordon the area. A quick reaction force arrived on the scene and transported the wounded Marines to Fallujah Surgical.

No insurgents were located following the firefight, but approximately 20 minutes later, Marines heard a broadcast emanating from a mosque. According to an Iraqi citizen, the message was a call for blood donations at Fallujah General Hospital.

A combat patrol was dispatched to search the hospital for wounded insurgents seeking treatment. Blood was discovered in two rooms, but no insurgents were found.

Marines left the hospital immediately after the search without incident.

There were no reports of civilian casualties.

“Coalition Forces searched the hospital to ensure that it continues to be a safe place for the citizens of Fallujah to receive the medical treatment they deserve,” Multi National Forces- West spokesman, Lt Col Bryan Salas, said.
