TIKRIT, Iraq – Senior Iraqi and Coalition Force leaders met Wednesday at Contingency Operating Base, Speicher to discuss the way ahead for security in northern Iraq and future operations in Multinational Division-North.

Iraqi Army division commanders, including 3IA who just this week fell under control of Iraqi Ground Forces Control, Iraqi police commanders from Ninewa, Kirkuk, Salah ad Din and Diyala provinces, along with their CF counterparts, and other Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense senior leaders from MND-N met during this conference to develop and coordinate plans for future security operations.

“This is a great day for all the leaders in MND-N,” said Brig. Gen. Mick Bednarek, deputy commanding general for operations for Task Force Lightning. “The opportunity for leaders from all the provinces in MND-N to discuss their strategy is tremendous. It allows all leaders to take away lessons learned by their counterparts.”

Focusing on integration and synchronization of ongoing security operations, and providing the opportunity to discuss command issues, the conference was valuable for key communicators to meet, share ideas and continue to build on the strong relationships between leaders of the ISF and CF.

“These are difficult and complicated matters that affect millions of Iraqis,” said Bednarek. “The dynamics of security and stability in northern Iraq are going to change the future of MND-N. It is in this room where all of these leaders have come together to discuss that future that some hard decisions will have to be made.”

The day-long session was closed with remarks from Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Mixon, commanding general of Task Force Lightning and the 25th Infantry Division.

Wednesday’s security conference kicked off what will be a regularly reoccurring event as leaders from the ISF and CF work together to maintain security and bring peace to the people of Iraq.
