More Anti-Military Bias at Work

..this time in a most unlikely venue. It's almost to bizarre to be true...but it is:

Anti-war judge rejects foster teen's bid to join military
By Dana Bartholomew, Staff Writer
SIMI VALLEY - Shawn Sage long dreamed of joining the military, and watching "Full Metal Jacket" last year really sold him on becoming a Marine.

But last fall, a Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner dashed the foster teen's hopes of early enlistment for Marine sniper duty, plus a potential $10,000 signing
bonus.

In denying the Royal High School student delayed entry into the Marine Corps, Children's Court Commissioner Marilyn Mackel reportedly told Sage and a recruiter that she didn't approve of the Iraq war, didn't trust recruiters and didn't support the military.

"The judge said she didn't support the Iraq war for any reason why we're over there," said Marine recruiter Sgt. Guillermo Medrano of the Simi Valley USMC recruiting office.

"She just said all recruiters were the same - that they `all tap dance and tell me what I want to hear.' She said she didn't want him to fight in it."

Sage, 17, said he begged for Mackel's permission.

"Foster children shouldn't be denied (an) ability to enlist in the service just because they're foster kids," he said. "Foster kids shouldn't have to go to court to gain approval to serve one's country."

Mackel, a juvenile dependency commissioner at the Children's Court in Monterey Park, declined through a clerk to speak about any court case or comments she may have made in court.

UnF*ing Believable.

Meanwhile Cassandra writes an absolute must read about the rise of an anti-military bias in this country. She writes:
About a year ago I told my husband, newly posted to Baghdad, that I was glad he was no longer in the United States.

Back then, I sensed the beginnings of a disturbing shift in public opinion. It began with Harry Reid's repeated statements that we were losing the war and his insinuations that Generals Petraeus and Pace (this was in the Spring of 2007) were both untrustworthy and dishonest. At the time I found these statements both dishonorable and alarming. It's one thing to disagree with someone politically. It's quite another for the Senate Majority leader to publicly ascribe, during wartime and on no evidence, venal motives to a military officer who has done nothing more than attempt to carry out his Congressionally mandated responsibilities as commander of Multinational Forces Iraq.

Since that time, we've seen a rise in both verbal and physical attacks on military personnel, both in this country and abroad. I don't think this is a coincidence: when our public servants openly revile our armed forces, those who oppose the very existence of an all-volunteer military are encouraged to lash out against it.

She asks if history will repeat itself once again...I say it already is because those teaching our young people our history are the same who wrought a travesty on our nation's military 40 years ago. they revel in their anarchic past and wish to have another generation follow in their footsteps and hate the country and profession that protects their right to be asshats.
