A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention.

Some Soldier’s Mom writes IDENTIFYING THE ENEMY “This is a way longer post than usual… a measured rant…I have been thinking a lot lately about why some people don’t understand that we really are fighting a war -- the war on terror is a real war… with bullets, bombs, and casualties. I just don’t understand how they can think that if we just “leave them alone” they will leave us alone. (See second post below for a list of leaving us alone.) Now I have done no scholarly research or polling on this, but in my view, I believe that much of the disconnect of a large segment of the American populace with the War on Terror is for three principle reasons.” (read more)

Crazy Politico writes Maybe He Should Read The Whole Paper “David Ignatius, a guy at the Washington Post I love to bash, should start reading advance copies of his paper before submitting his editorial pieces. I say this, because in writing his "After the Bombs, Politics" column he obviously didn't see the "Hezbollah Balks At Withdraw" article that ended up on the front page of the same paper. Ignatius, like many folks who believe terrorist groups can be dealt with through diplomacy, is confused by the fact that Hezbollah and Hamas have become involved in politics.” (read more)

Victor Davis Hanson writes Worry About the West — Not Israel “The reactions and media coverage coming out of the West regarding this latest war in the Middle East are as bewildering as they are instructive. Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., for example, recently said, "I don't take sides for or against Hezbollah or for or against Israel ." Meanwhile, the Western news agency Reuters, responding to scrutiny by bloggers, withdrew wire photos taken by a freelance photographer of a smoky and burning Beirut . Reuters had failed to catch the freelancer's doctoring of the photos to emphasize unduly the damage from Israeli bombs.” (read more)

William Teach of Pirate’s Cove writes Baby Bomb, Part II “On Monday night, I mentioned that a baby was involved in the plot to blow up planes originating from the U.K. Finally we have a story and the correct names: So, moderate Muslims, what do you say to this? Does it disgust you? Does it upset you the way tenents of your religion are acting and hijacking your religion? When will you stand up and say "No more!"?” (read more)

Captain Ed writes Rice Protests Too Much? “Condoleezza Rice takes to the pages of the Washington Post in an effort to explain to Americans why the US pressed for the cease-fire agreement adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council. Rice insists that UNSCR 1701 delivers the construct for a lasting peace, if fully implemented. That, however, is the problem, which even Rice acknowledges:” (read more)

John Hawkins of Right Wing News writes Bill Clinton Admits It Wasn't All About The WMDS + Bill On Lieberman “First of all, it's interesting to hear Clinton admit this, because it's exactly the opposite of what liberals have been saying for years. At first, when it looked like we weren't going to find any WMDs in Iraq, everyone on the left proclaimed, retroactively, that Bush told America it was only about the WMDs. Conservatives responded that yes, Bush had discussed WMDs extensively, but it wasn't just about the WMDs. It was about WMDS AND Saddam's hostility to America, his connections to Al-Qaeda, his support of terrorism, the danger he posed to the region, and spreading democracy -- among other things. But now, after it has been revealed that yes, we did find more than 500 pre-Gulf War WMDS in Iraq, I guess Clinton thinks that meme no longer works. So, now it's time to go in a different direction.” (read more)

John Noonan of OPFOR writes If World War II Were Fought Today... “-The New York Times would expose the Manhattan Project during initial uranium enrichment phases.
-International A.N.S.W.E.R. would respond to the attack on Pearl Harbor by organizing a rally to condemn US aggression in East Asia.
-Britain's counterstrikes against German V-2 rocket emplacements would be labeled a ‘disproportionate response.’
-So would Operation Overlord.
-Michael Moore would tell us ‘there is no facist threat.’” (read more)

Kat in Ga of Yikes! writes 8:20 p.m., EST - I am home “I arrived at the cemetary at approximately 5:45. I was pleasantly surprised to see a very decent-sized crowd in attendance. Robert had said in his email this was going to be a very small, private, informal gathering for close friends/family/etc.. well, Mike had a LOT of close friends!!! He was a very well-loved guy. Word had gotten out and many, many people were there - it was absolutely GREAT.” (read more)

Midnight in Iraq writes RPG “’RPG!!!’ was the first thing I heard. The three staccato letters emanated in a flurry of excitement and confusion from my turret gunner. The rocket had sailed about three feet over the top of our HMMWV, actually coming closer to his head than the truck. It benignly exploded in mid-air on the other side of the road, safely away from our HMMWV. When later questioned as to exactly how close the rocket came to us he replied,” (read more)
