ANA Detains Taliban Facilitator, Recovers Weapon Caches in Herat

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Third Company, 1st Kandak, 207th Afghan National Army Corps, combat advised by US Army Special Forces Soldiers, detained a Taliban facilitator and discovered three weapon caches while conducting a combat patrol in the village of Deh Tut, Gulistan District, Heart Province, April 17.

ANA soldiers became suspicious and later searched a guarded compound when one of the guards could not provide appropriate documentation or explain why the compound needed to be guarded. A subsequent search of the compound resulted in the discovery of the three weapons caches. Significant items recovered were 18 rocket propelled grenade rounds, 27 AK47s, 19 assault vests, 73 30-round magazines, multiple counterfeit Afghan National Police uniforms, and over 1000 rounds of various heavy machine gun ammunition.

After questioning, the guard commander confessed that he commanded over 100 armed Taliban fighters and also provided an early warning force for Taliban logistical operations between neighboring provinces.
