BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces killed an enemy militant during a brief firefight in an operation early Thursday against al-Qaida facilitators in Khogyani district of Nangarhar Province.
Forces acted on credible intelligence that pointed to the compound as a possible safehouse for weapons and IED facilitators. As the combined force approached the house, they took fire from a militant inside.
Coalition and Afghan forces returned fire, killing the armed militant and quickly securing the scene.
No coalition forces were injured in the operation.
Weapons were found in a search of the compound, in addition to numerous timers and grenades used to make improvised explosive devices. The timers and grenades were taken to a safe distance and destroyed in place.
Three men were detained and will be questioned as to their identities and involvement in militant activities.
