Iraqi National Police Open New Station

In an effort to stregthen security in the neighborhoods of Baghdad the Iraqi National Police opened a new police station in Khadra:

BAGHDAD — The 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment, 2nd Iraqi National Police Division opened a new police station in the Khadra neighborhood of western Baghdad June 30. The new police station is co-located with Coalition Forces from Company C, 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment.

Lt. Col. Hassan, the 2nd Battalion commander, said the new police station would only strengthen security in the neighborhood. He said by having his National Police battalion operating with Co. C in the area, their combined efforts will make Khadra’s streets safer. His American counterpart agreed.

“I see our role as a combat multiplier for the national police,” said Capt. Dan Cannon, commander of Co. C. “They own the battle space and they (will) take the lead.”

Cannon added that he expects security to improve in the western Baghdad neighborhood as his company works alongside the National Police officers.

Is one police station the end all be all of security in Iraq? Of course not but one police station today and another tomorrow and so on, and so on, all adds up to a safer Iraq.

As we've seen the locals are tiring of the endless cycle of violence being wrought upon them by the terrorists and those who seek to destabilize the government for their own personal gains. Al Qaeda in iraq and the local militias are all working against the security of Iraq for similar reasons, the least of which is hoping for a US Failure. As long as the western media continues to ignore the progress being maide and continues to willing play the propganda of the enemy. it will continue to be an up hill battle to win the information war.

This Police station is a step in the right direction, Iraqi's protecting Iraqis and standing up against those who are doing violence upon them.
