Ameriya Murder Rates Drops to Zero.

A mile stone that will never be reported in the MSM is the fact that after more than 20 months of violent insurgent activity, September marked the first month that there were no murders within the western Ameriya neighborhood of the Iraqi capital:

After more than 20 months of violent insurgent activity, September marked the first month that there were no murders within the western Ameriya neighborhood of the Iraqi capital.

“Murder has been an effective insurgent tactic in Ameriya and groups like al-Qaeda have capitalized on it as a method to terrorize the local populace,” said 2nd Lt. Evan Howell, a staff officer with 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, who, together with Iraqi Security Forces, provides security for the area. “Earlier this year we were recording almost two a day and since late 2005 murder events were as commonplace as buying groceries in Ameriya.”

Ameriya has already recorded similar decreasing trends with indirect fire, and a rise in the detection of weapons caches and improvised explosive device discoveries, Howell said.

“Stopping murders was a top priority for this battalion,” Howell said. “A zero monthly murder count combined with a record number of weapons caches and IED finds leads to the overwhelming conclusion that Ameriya has become a safe and secure neighborhood. This is probably one of the greatest successes of this battalion’s endeavor to protect the neighborhood of Ameriya.”

Is this why the MSM now suddenly seems so intent upon drawing attention to the tragic events unfolding around Blackwater and other Private Security Companies? Does the dropping murder rates signal success in Iraq and the MSM must now change the story to one of lawlessness on the part of private companies to maintain the feelings of despair emanating from Iraq?

Seems like the residents of Ameriya are enjoying the fruits of the surge and the MSM is worried that the success will spread. I have news for them...the country is already experiencing success on a scale never before seen in Iraq. Its time the MSM takes notice and begins reporting it.
