Running for Fallen/Wounded Soldiers and their Families...

Reader, Patrick Brown brought this effort to my attention and asked me spread the word, of which I am more than happy to oblidge.

Meet Captain Jason Lynn:

Captain Lynn is an Apache helicopter pilot on his second tour in Iraq. He is planning to run a marathon in Florida in December to raise money for an organization called Hope for the Warriors.

Why? As he says:

I'm an Apache Helicopter Pilot currently serving my second tour of duty in Iraq. Running a marathon is something I have wanted to do for several years but haven't had a motivating purpose to make me take training seriously. Now I do!

During this deployment, my Battalion lost a very special Soldier, SPC Michael Brown. More recently, one of my best friends from West Point suffered a near fatal injury during an enemy attack on his convoy that resulted in the death of one of his Soldiers, SPC Arturo-Huerta Cruz. These events have inspired me to begin this fundraiser in honor of them and for an organization that benefits ALL fallen/wounded Soldiers and their Families.

I am in contact with H4TW discussing the possibility of ensuring a portion of the money raised goes directly to both SPC Brown's and SPC Cruz's Families. H4TW will do what they can in accordance with their mission and following the guidelines set forth by their board of directors to help ensure that happens. As I would expect from my good friend who was injured, knowing the quality guy that he is and what he stands for, he has asked not to receive any benefits from this, instead for any support received to be directed to his Soldier's family. The military takes good care of those wounded in combat, but it's organizations like "Hope for the Warriors" that provides many Soldiers and their Families the extra support and care each deserves.

And just who is Hope for the Warriors?

They are a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for US Service Members and their families nationwide who have been adversely affected by injuries or death in the line of duty. Hope for the Warriors™ actively seeks to ensure that the sacrifices of wounded and fallen warriors and their families are never forgotten nor their needs unmet, particularly with regard to the short and long-term care of the severely injured.

On their own, our service members and their families are awe inspiring in the face of their disabilities and hardships - courageous and resolute. However, it is with the support of a grateful nation that they remain unfaltering in their determination and find hope and purpose beyond recovery. As a united support network, all individuals, whether of great or small means, can find an opportunity to honor those who have willingly sacrificed to defend and protect our freedom. We invite you to take part in the inspirational lives of these young men and women and make it known that they never stand alone.

To accomplish our mission, we have designed special programs that allow and encourage community involvement.
