Web Reconnaissance for 01/13/2009

A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention, updated throughout the day...so check back often.

On the Web:
Phyllis Chesler: The Hindu-Jewish Anti-Terrorism Coalition. One Million+ on Inauguration Day - Millions of people just marched in favor of Hamas terrorism; they roared and shouted out their hot hatred of Jews, Israel, and America. Their chants are beyond Nazi-like. They are far worse. Pro-Israel marchers were out in force too, fewer in number, but standing in non-violent dignity, without resorting to hate speech or thuggery. The Hindu-Jewish-Buddhist-Christian coalition is planning a Conference call for their rally against terrorism to take place on Inauguration Day. (READ MORE)

A Soldier's Mind: President Bush Praises Troops As He Prepares To Pass Presidential Baton - One of the things that President Bush is most proud of, is that the men and women who make up the United States military, without question have been up to the tasks that he, as commander in chief has set before them. Over the past 8 years, those tasks have not been easy ones. Not for those wearing the uniform or their family members. Some of the men and women under his command, have lost their lives or have returned grievously injured, as they performed the jobs that President Bush has asked of them. President Bush emphasized that being commander in chief of the military, is one aspect of his job as President of the United States, that he’ll miss the most. (READ MORE)

Lawhawk: Operation Cast Lead: Day 18 - The rockets keep coming, and Israel continues to attack Hamas positions in Gaza. If you want to know why UNRWA keeps complaining about the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza, just ask Hamas why they're stealing all that humanitarian aid coming in from Israel and selling it to the highest bidder. “Hamas on Monday raided some 100 aid trucks that Israel had allowed into Gaza, stole their contents and sold them to the highest bidders. The IDF said that since terminal activity is coordinated with UNRWA and the Red Cross, Israel could do nothing to prevent such raids, Israel Radio reported.” (READ MORE)

Donald Douglas: Today's "Antiwar" Movement - Some folks may have noticed amid all the protests against Israel in Gaza is that the main sponsor of the demonstrations in the U.S. is the ANSWER coalition. Saturday's pro-Palestinian demonstration in Westwood, for example, was sponsored by "the Free Palestine Alliance and Answer L.A.", according to this report in the Los Angeles Times. A Times photo of yesterday's demonstration depicts protesters holding signs sponsored by CAIR, the country's top Islamic lobbying group and "front organization for Hamas." (READ MORE)

Atlas Shrugged: UK: BLOOD LIBEL HORROR: JEWS EATING DEAD BABIES - This is horrible. I ask men of reason, civilized men to see what is happening. Look at what is happening. We are on a terrible course, a collision course of the worst order. This is beyond the pale. And the media is ignoring it. The big blogs are ignoring it. I don't know why. I have over 20 posts of the death to the Jew marches across Europe and America. Where is the worldwide outrage. Something is terribly. terribly wrong. (READ MORE)

Richard Landes: France2 Steps in the Pallywood Doodoo… and what a revealing whopper! - A recent incident, well covered in both the blogosphere and (some) of the MSM, casts a brilliant light on some of the darker alleys of the media theater of war, particularly on the inner workings of Pallywood. France2’s combination of “the tailor” Talal abu Rahme and his boss, “the chamberlain” Charles Enderlin, producing the Pallywood magnum opus al Durah, first revealed the workings of this disturbing symbiosis of Palestinian and Western media to me in October 2003. Bar Kochba: Not a Tear! - Faced with a barrage of new footage of dead children, Israel's PR is negligible. Hamas has proven that it has no shame in abusing the dead, but gleefully shows pictures of maimed or killed children. The terrorists in Gaza use death pornography to further their nefarious plans of defaming Israel. The crowds worldwide scream "stop the holocaust in Gaza!" while employing the most cynical and obscene comparisons between Israel and Nazi Germany. Suddenly, the world pretends to be interested in human rights and uses them as a weapon against the Jewish state. Politicians and celebrities denounce the supposed massacres in Gaza and even Jewish leaders preface their support of Israel with apologies over civilian deaths. (READ MORE)

Big Dog: Now Franken Wants To Ignore The Voters - When Democrats are losing then every vote must count. When the race is close, every vote must count and they always vow not to stop until every last vote is tallied so that the will of the people will not be ignored. They maintain that position until the Democratic candidate takes a lead and then they want the counting stopped, certificates signed, and everyone to go home. This is what Al Franken is up to. The recount in Minnesota was automatically triggered because of the margin of Norm Coleman’s victory. Then all kinds of hanky panky started. (READ MORE)

Bear Creek Ledger: PBS to present their Wet Dream of Obama - Another fair and balanced report from PBS Frontline. Not that PBS hasn’t been in the tank for the Obami but I suppose this might help them even further get their half a billion dollar bailout which is in addition to all the tax dollars PBS already receives. Just remember, PBS is balanced. It’s just their balancing machine has been out of whack since their inception and it’s never been fixed. Their idol is the BBC and would really like to see an indisputable tax on televisions just like the BBC. Then they wouldn’t have to dirty their Leftard hands from the stinky smell of begging for taxpayer dollars. After all, that’s for the peons and peasants. (READ MORE)

The Belmont Club: Breakfast of champions - WRAP your head around this. The Telegraph reports that “food champions” will literally be coming to homes in Britain to make sure they don’t throw away leftovers, eat spoiled groceries and do not otherwise harm the planet. “Home cooks will also be told what size portions to prepare, taught to understand “best before” dates and urged to make more use of their freezers. The door-to-door campaign, which starts tomorrow, will be funded by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), a Government agency charged with reducing household waste.” (READ MORE)

Dafydd: George Voinovich Retiring. Can We Get a Republican Instead? - George Voinovich (RINO-OH, 48%) has announced that he won't run for reelection. He joins Mel Martinez (R-FL, 80%), Sam Brownback (R-KS, 95%), Kit Bond (R-MO, 83%), and possibly Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX, 88%) in the list of Republican senators who have either announced they won't run for reelection in 2010 or, in Hutchison's case, appears ready to resign to run for governor of Texas. Voinovich has been a thorn in the eyes of the GOP for his entire tenure as U.S. senator. Probably for that very reason, his prospects for reelection in 2010 were already dicey. (READ MORE)

Uncle Jimbo: Norwegian doc drops a few lies on exfil - Noted lying douchebag and terrorist mouthpiece Dr. Mads Gilbert has returned to his native Norway. but not before spreading some more BS propaganda. His latest slurs claim Israel is using Gaza as a testing grounds for heinous new weapons. He and his partner in lies claim a lot of garbage that sounds good to the gullible media, but makes no sense with even a little due diligence. First what the evil Zionists are up to. “Israel is testing a new ‘extremely nasty’ type of weapon in Gaza, two medics charged as they returned home to Norway Monday after spending 10 days working at a hospital in the war-torn Palestinian territory. ‘There's a very strong suspicion I think that Gaza is now being used as a test laboratory for new weapons,’ Mads Gilbert told reporters at Oslo's Gardermoen airport:” (READ MORE)

Mark Grimsley: Courage After Fire - An Associated Press story making the rounds is one of the most heartening things I’ve read in a long while. (It broke a couple of months ago, but I didn’t run across it until today.) Back in June I wrote a post that raised an ethical issue that (I soon discovered) most officers wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole. Here’s one officer who has, heroically. “WASHINGTON - It takes a brave soldier to do what Army Maj. Gen. David Blackledge did in Iraq. It takes as much bravery to do what he did when he got home. Blackledge got psychiatric counseling to deal with wartime trauma, and now he is defying the military’s culture of silence on the subject of mental health problems and treatment.” (READ MORE)

The captain's Journal: U.S. Marines Find Iraq Tactics Don’t Work in Afghanistan - Before The Captain’s Journal is a strategy blog, we are first and foremost a logistics and tactical blog (logistics and tactics, techniques and procedures - TTP - is our first interest). We are also a Marine blog, and so naturally, when McClatchy published their article (U.S. Marines find Iraq Tactics don’t work in Afghanistan), we were interested. Several money quotes are given below, followed by commentary and analysis. “DELARAM, Afghanistan — On a sunset patrol here in late December, U.S. Marines spotted a Taliban unit trying to steal Afghan police vehicles at a checkpoint. In a flash, the Marines turned to pursue, driving off the main road and toward the gunfire coming from the mountain a half mile away.” (READ MORE)

Confederate Yankee: CNN's Alibi Hasn't Seen the Raw Tape, and Won't Produce It - Today I contacted Paul Martin, the co-owner of World News and Features whom CNN cited in their claim that Ashraf Masharawi's video of his brother's death in a Gaza hospital emergency room as the result of being fired upon by an Israeli drone was indeed legitimate as shown, and not staged as many right of center bloggers have contended. I asked Mr. Martin a series of questions about the video, including queries about the apparent inconsistencies in the timeline in various versions as told presented by CNN and Channel 4 as noted by Dan Riehl, and why the family was so adamant that an Israeli drone fired a missile that targeted the two boys playing on the rooftop. Matthew Levitt: The Real Connection between Iran and Hamas - Iran’s active state sponsorship of Middle East terrorist groups is well documented, from terrorist and insurgent groups in Iraq and Afghanistan to Hizballah in Lebanon and Hamas and PIJ in the West Bank and Gaza. The Iranian regime has been described by U.S. officials as the “central banker of terrorism” and has a nine-digit line item in its budget to support terrorism, sending hundreds of millions of dollars to terrorist groups annually. Illustrating how the support for terrorism is part of an official government policy, Iran has used its state-owned financial institutions to dole out these funds. (READ MORE)

Dr. Sanity: MOVING BEYOND THE PALESTINIAN DELUSION - That Israel is a free and successful state, is cause for even more frenzy and ferocious hatred by those who are experiencing that unbearable inferiority, envy, and shame. Hate and violence; paranoia and projection; endless jihad and non-stop denial are the only strategies that are possible when self-knowledge is carefully avoided; and when reality is always in the rear view mirror. (READ MORE)

Don Surber: Quitters? - Of course senators should leave once they hit 65. We have the oldest Congress in history. The average age in the House is 57. The average age in the Senate is 63. With a job approvl rate of 18%, we also have the most hated, despised and loathed Congress in history. This is no coincidence. ongress is out of touch with America. Democratic Sen. Robert C. Byrd has not lived in West Virginia in 57 years. What does he know of West Virginia? All his friends and relatives died out long ago. At 91, he is a creature of the Beltaway, by the Beltway and for the Beltway. (READ MORE)

GayPatriotWest: Obama’s White House Press Corps: Jeff Gannons All? - Remember how upset the left-wing blogosophere got when they “exposed” then-White House correspondent Jeff Gannon as a “shill” for a conservative website/news agency? They were upset because this supposedly closeted gay man was excessively deferential when asking questions during White House press briefings. They just didn’t like he like he tossed softballs at the president. As if no reporters were asking tough questions of the president and his team. With the election of Barack Obama, it seems the press has become a corps of Jeff Gannons. The president-elect’s news conferences have become “scripted” affairs: (READ MORE)

Hamilton, Madison, and Jay: Just in case you were wondering who calls the shots for Hamas ... - This past weekend while I sat in my usual online chatroom discussing politics, our regular group of trolls made their appearances, and tried to speak about the Israeli invasion of Gaza. According to them Hamas is run by the Palestinians, and they are the military wing of the Palestinian Authority. In other words, these tools were trying to legitimize Hamas instead of identifying it for what it is, which is a terrorist group. Today the J-Post notes that the Palestinian Authority isn't calling the shots for Hamas. Iran is: (READ MORE)

Allahpundit: Anti-Israel protest in San Francisco entirely predictable - A new one from Zombie. The Nazi analogies no longer shock — they’ve been a staple of this cretinism for years — but I admit to an arched eyebrow and a grim smile at the anti-Obama agitprop near the end. It won’t change mainstream leftists’ minds about Israel, but seeing the Messiah demonized as a “fascist lackey” might give them enough pause at least to take some of the edge off the rhetoric. Just across the wires as I write this is a report of Molotov cocktails being tossed at a synagogue in Paris. (READ MORE)

Zombietime: Gaza War Protest and Anti-Israel Rally - On Saturday, January 10, 2009, a large rally and march took place in San Francisco to protest Israel's invasion of Gaza. The event was one of a series of similar events held in various cities around the country on the same day, and was organized by ANSWER along with several other far-left, Arab and Muslim groups. The photos in this report represent what I personally saw that day in San Francisco. Because there were thousands of people in attendance, with innumerable signs, vignettes and scenes playing out every minute in many different locations, I can vouch only for what I myself witnessed. (READ MORE)

Ed Morrissey: Why the bailout will kill good business - Ford separated itself from the other two major American carmakers by refusing to take part in the federal bailout of the industry from the White House and Congress. Instead, they hoped to build a stronger customer base by standing on their own two feet and providing better product. Has it worked? Yes and no. While Ford has increased market share and built sales, the government bailout will wind up subsidizing their competitors and damaging their business: (READ MORE)

JACK ARMY: War Stories - A couple of weeks ago, some veterans of my unit's last deployment were standing around waiting for something to happen when the conversation turned to those that didn't come home and a couple of incidents that, had they gone differently, could have meant that each of us didn't come home. I told the story of my close encounter with a VBIED. Another Soldier, who used to be a squad leader in my platoon told the story about how he was shot. The officer there talked about the patrol on which he lost five of his Soldiers. After that, the conversation just kind of petered out, nobody had anything to say that wrapped up those stories into a neat, little conclusion. So we just nodded to each other and walked away. As I headed to my office, I noticed a young, new private who had been listening to our stories. I just smiled at him and kept walking, too choked up to say anything anyway. (READ MORE)

Jules Crittenden: Hurl-Blogging the Inaugur-A-Palooza, Reflux - Helpful advice for lefties. Keep a bag handy. It isn’t just weak-stomached rightwing nutcases who may be looking at lunch again. They porked out at Obama’s all-you-can-bash lib joint, and when you do that, then sooner or later, what goes down must come up. Pethokoukis at US News & World Report: “For many liberals, that Obamagasmic ‘tingle going up their legs’ from the campaign season — to paraphrase MSNBC’s Chris Matthews — may have crept upward into stomach-churning queasiness as Inauguration Day nears. Consider this counterfactual:” (READ MORE)
