A short look at what’s out there that might draw your attention. SUNDAY EDITION
Captain Ed writes What You Need To Know About Diplomacy And Journalism In War “We have been granted a unique opportunity this morning to see the problem with double standards in diplomacy and journalism in war, especially a war that involves Israel and terrorists. Earlier we recounted the utter idiocy of Reuters in allowing a badly-doctored photograph of Beirut to go out over their wires (all hail Charles Johnson). Now USA Today gives us a report on Hezbollah attacks this morning that shows more than one double standard at work:” (read more)
Confederate Yankee writes Shadi Business? “When I saw Dan Reihl's post noting that refrigerated trucks came from Tyre before the media arrived after daybreak, I thought that the trucks were suspicious. Now IsrealInsider (h/t A.J. Strata) is reporting that the Lebanese rescue worker known by many simply as "Green Helmet" that appeared in so many of photos brandishing a dead toddler by the neck, is a man named Abu Shadi.” (read more)
Omar of Iraq the Model writes Why is it difficult to demonize a demon? “I was reading the news stories this morning about the demonstration that was organized by Sadr in support of Hezbollah when one quote from a senior coalition official caught my attention. The story doesn't make it clear whether that official was general Abizaid himself or someone else but I hope it wasn't Abizaid or any official senior enough to influence the strategy of the coalition in Iraq especially at this critical stage:” (read more)
Steve Schippert of Threats Watch writes Lead, Follow or Get Out of The Way: “The World Needs to Allow Israel to Pursue the Neutralization of Hizballah. ‘It was posited in a recent commentary that, contrary to popular opinion, Hizballah Is On The Ropes. That is because they are. Yet, if there were one thing that could have been made clearer in that commentary, it would be to stress that Hizballah “on the ropes” does not mean they are near destruction or elimination. Hizballah is still the fiercest Arab fighting force in the region and still empowered by an intense fanatical ideology.’” (read more)
Jay Tea of Wizbang writes The mice voted to bell the cat “Well, the United States and France have agreed on a tentative ceasefire in Lebanon. Unfortunately, neither the United States nor France are a party to the fighting. The fighting is between Israel (a sovereign state) and Hezbollah (a terrorist organization). Hezbollah is the de facto government in southern Lebanon, as well as a legitimate political party with a sizable representation in the de jure government of Lebanon.” (read more)
Robin of Chickenhawk Express writes What Does the Average Hezbollah Terrorist Keep in His Closet? “Since the tragic incident at Qana, fingers have pointed steadily at Israel as the "evil-doers". Forgotten is the reason this war is going on - Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers. (Have you noticed that the kidnapping gets very little mention in the media now? Same with the soldier kidnapped by Hamas). Brushed aside are the numeous attacks against innocent Israelis over the years. Public transportation, Sbaro Restaurants, Coffee Shops, etc were target rich environments for the terrorists. There were so many suicide bombings in Israel that the media coverage amounted to "another suicide bombing in Israel with dead people"- which makes the focus on the deaths in Lebanon hard to understand.” (read more)
Dadmanly writes More on Media Manipulation “Regular readers here know I have often spoke about the problems inherent in any attempt to summarize reality in easy packages. Just yesterday, I criticized a University of Chicago Political Science Professor. In that case, I objected to attributing (individual) human motivations to a Nation State collective, for ascribing motive and plan in the absence of information, and discerning cause and effect between media criticism and the ongoing actions of Israel.” (read more)
