Trash Clean-up Boosts Iraqi Community

AL MADINAH AS SIYAHIYAH — As part of the effort to assist in Iraqi self-sufficiency, Soldiers with the 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry Regiment provided support to local Iraqi citizens for a road clean-up project Feb. 7.

The program was created to provide employment for Iraqis, and to keep roads cleaner and safer for coalition forces and Iraqi motorists, according to Capt. Adam A. Gilbertson, commanding officer of Alpha Company, 2-136 and the administrator of the program.

“The biggest benefactors are the people employed and the people that drive these roads. Much like our adopt-a-highway program in the United States, this is a way to clean the roads and make the environment cleaner,” Gilbertson said.
